URBAN 150 SERIES
Mesmerized by the multicultural country that she grew up in, Josephine Condotta created 12 artworks illustrating 12 Canadian cities and their electricity! Each painting can be broken down into three major components: a city map, a ‘Chaos of Colour’ layer, and a silhouette of electricity.
The first layer is a map; a grid-work of streets selected from the city the painting represents. It is a rigid and geometric depiction of how a city or place is designed.
The second layer is a burst of untamed energy; an abstract illustration of the essence of that city. The artist calls these her Chaos of Colour layers as they are applied literally by hand in an organic and instinctual manner.
The last layer combines the structure of that city with its free-flowing life to exemplify the energy of that place. It gives you a glimpse of the magic that every city in Canada has; the dynamic of different groups of people living and working together, or the bustle of travellers visiting for an experience!
